The Stud has a few carefully
selected mares, selected on type, movement and character. We go for the type of
pony that is able to do a job of work. In our Stud’s bloodlines you will find
mainly a combination of Coed Coch S and Coed Coch P bloodlines, with the
addition of other valuable old blood mostly from North Wales.

One of our
Stud’s foundation mares was the bay Lacy Sable by Gredington Andreas
by Coed Coch Planed, out of Dryfe Selina by Coed Coch Trydar by Coed
Coch Saled. Although Sable had two rather direct lines to Coed Coch
Planed, she was very much like Coed Coch Saled and not just in
colour. Unfortunately Lacy Sable died of a colic in 2006, in foal to
Langevoren Reuben by Bengad Dogberry, out of Sunwillow Monte Rosa.
Our world has never been the same since. Sable was this “just once
in a lifetime pony”, we did not own her, she owned us. We could put
Sable to any stallion and she would give us a good foal. Lacy Sable
is the foundation mare of our “S” line. |
|
Luckily Sable
gave us two daughters and three sons.
Her daughters are Powys Sian, grey, by Coed Coch Bleddyn and Powys
Seren, grey, by Waxwing Hillbilly.
Both Sian and Seren are young brood mares for the Stud now.
Two of Sables’ sons are currently doing their job as stockgetters,
Powys Shon by Blackhill Picalo at the Julmar Stud of the Devenney
family in Lancashire and Powys Sant by Waxwing Hillbilly at the Reed
Family’s Haverford Stud in South East Wales. A third Lacy Sable son,
Powys Sprite by Heniarth Quinnell has been approved at the National
Stallion Show and is owned by Yvette and Harold Zoet’s Ysselvliedt
Stud. |
|
The second
foundation mare is the grey mare Lacy Fleur, by Sunwillow Thun, grandson
of Coed Coch Planed and Coed Coch Seren Wen. Fleur is out of Crossways
Maybe, full sister to Crossways Merle who is out of Ready Token Glen
Bride, both Merle and Glen Bride being Royal Welsh Champions. Fleur is
not really Crossways bred but there is Ready Token and Coed Coch blood
in her too. Lacy Fleur is the foundation mare of our “F” line. |

The
first foal to be born out of Lacy Fleur at our Stud, was Powys Jack
Flash by Gredington Calon Lan. We sold him back to Colin Tibbey, who
sold him on as a gelding. He is now, after being broken to ride by Mandy
Burchell-Small, Rowfantina Stud, doing one hell of a job in every ridden
discipline you can think of for the Thompson Family from Salcombe, Devon.
They think the world of him, he has filled more than one table with cups
and rosettes for them. Last season he was, among others, selected for
the Horse of the year Show in the NEC. He is one of only twenty ponies
selected for his discipline in all of Great Britain!
We have retained two daughters and one son of Fleur in the Stud: firstly
the chestnut mare Powys Ffiona, by Rhydyfelin Story, by Bengad Rush out
of Rhydyfelin Silk.
And by Waxwing Hillbilly, Fleur gave us her grey son Powys Fizz. He is
still owned by the Stud, now however doing his job as a stockgetter at
the Richards and Liberty Studs in Germany. With them lives another Fleur
daughter at the moment, Powys Florence by Langevoren Reuben. In 2008
Fleur had a chestnut fillyfoal Powys Fioled, that will be retained. |

Just before Lacy
Sable died we were very lucky in purchasing her beautiful half-sister
Lacy Serena, by Lacy Justyn out of Dryfe Selina by Coed Coch Trydar, who
is by Coed Coch Saled. Lacy Justyn is by Saltersford Justin, both are
Royal Welsh Champions, but apart from that Saltersford Justin has two
direct lines to Gredington Simwnt, which we like very much!. Serena is a
lovely pony with a great character and she comforted us a lot when we
sadly lost Lacy Sable, she is in character very much like her half
sister.
Her 2006 foal, the grey filly Powys Toy by Blackhill Picalo, is retained.
In 2007 Serena gave us a bay colt foal, Powys Telstar, by Rhydyfelin
Star Maker. History repeated itself here: Lacy Sable was a rich bay out
of two grey parents, Powys Telstar out of her half-sister again is a bay
out of two greys. Because another string of “S” names could be confusing
we decided to begin the Serena’s foalnames with a “T”, hence Powys Toy
and Powys Telstar. |

Powys Sian was
Lacy Sable’s first foal to be born at our Stud. When we purchased her
dam, Lacy Sable, she was in foal to Coed Coch Bleddyn. From the moment
Sian was born there was this “I am special” thing about her. Today she
is a good moving mare in her prime, currently with a bay filly foal,
Powys Sunrise at foot, full sister to last year’s Powys Stargazer by
Rhydyfelin Star Maker. Not long ago we sold her very good daughter Powys
Sophie by Heniarth Quinnell locally. |

Powys Seren is
out of Lacy Sable by Waxwing Hillbilly. We chose Waxwing Hillbilly
because of the Clan Pip, Rhydyfelin combination and Criban Glory Be in
his pedigree. When Seren was first shown as a two year old at the
International Show in Waregem, Belgium she won the Reserve Youngstock
Championship. Since then she has given us three foals, her first foal, a
colt, was by Langevoren Reuben, Powys Swift, in 2007 a colt again by
Rhydyfelin Star Maker, Powys Stardust, who is at the Richards Stud in
Germany now. In 2008 his full brother Powys Starlight was born. |

The chestnut mare
Powys Ffiona is out of Lacy Fleur by the Champion stallion Rhydyfelin
Story who we already liked when he was still young pony. Ffiona is a
very good mover. Apparently Story has given his stockgetting qualities
on to his daughter, as the two foals Ffiona has had so far are rather
special. Ffiona’s first foal, by Langevoren Reuben, born in 2006, is the
chestnut colt Powys Frenchie who is at Ed van Hoek’s Richards Stud now.
Frenchie thanks his name to the fact that he was born quite unexpectedly,
two weeks early, during our holiday in France. In 2007 Ffiona gave us a
grey filly foal, Powys Fay, by Rhydyfelin Star Maker, another good
moving one. In 2008 she had another grey filly Powys Fanwy. |
